Nowa Huta is socialism’s model town which came into existence in Poland. For many years it was said to be an architectural monster, but as time went by it has become a tourist attraction. The most attractive is ‘the old part’ of Huta. It came into existence in late 40′s and early 50′s, which is the first part built according to an appropriate urban planning. Today, this part of the district has been entered into the Register of Historic Monuments. The most important part of the town is the Central Square, named after Ronald Reagan, which is the centre of Nowa Huta, and from whitch the streets branch off radiantly. Nowa Huta’s centre is built very uniformly, harmonically, and in spite of changing plans, the original concept of its designer, Tadeusz Ptaszynski, has been kept up to this day. The design was a perfect combination of an ideal town and town of gardens.
